Who LOVES French Provincial?
French Provincial certainly is making a comeback, and I LOVE IT!!! I love the curves and the detailing - something you don't see a lot of in today's furniture market.
I know I have told you all about a French Provincial set I had picked up over a year ago from an elderly couple in Erie, PA. They had to downsize, and I was able to get some beautiful, quality pieces!
This beautiful China Cabinet was one of those pieces! {I had the whole set, and would have liked to have sold it all together, but as things turned out I have sold each piece separately! And that's ok, too.}
I don't have pictures of the actual transformation of this piece, but I have gotten so much interest in the final finish/ color, I thought I would quickly share how my Wise Owl paints gave this piece a new and refreshed look!
I started with Wise Owl Bone for the inside.
Can I just mention.... painting the inside of a china cabinet when the side lights are fixed and don't open is kind of a lesson in becoming a contortionist!!! I also learned how to paint left-handed! The things you do and the positions you take to get that perfect finish can be comical!
At any rate, once the inside was all freshly painted and sealed, I mixed up three colors for the outside:
Bone, Glacial, and Smokey Quartz.
This has a nice blue hue to it and I painted the inside (behind the doors) in Glacial. But I wanted to tone that blue down a little, so I did a wash of Gray Linen and Bone and applied that over the first color mix.
Once the wash was dry, I sealed it with out matte varnish
and then used our Mortar Glaze along the edges and detailing.
For the hardware, I soaked them in white vinegar and water. Then, I just cleaned them up with some steel wool and Bar Keeper's Friend.
Doesn't she look spendid now!!! A nice, fresh and modern look to this pretty lady!
I think she is gorgeous and still waiting to find her forever home!!
