Hydrangea Table Art & a Sneak Peek!

I originally purchased this table with the vision of creating another baseball art design on it. If you missed the post on my baseball table, you can find it here!

I thought the legs could be cute painted to emulate the baseball bats. But the customer didn't have the same vision and wanted me to find another style of table.

So, the table sat in my stash for awhile until I finally came up with a new design.

I love hydrangeas, but I knew to put a hydrangea to art would be daunting. I decided to give it a try anyway. I wanted to work with layers on this one, so after a lot of sanding (as you can see, the top was a mess) and cleaning, I painted the basecoat in Wise Owl Bone.

After this was dry, I did a wash of a mix of Wise Owl Glacial and Wise Owl Gray Linen.

Then I added layers of Quatrefoil, Damask and Grainsack designs.

For the hydrangea, I used a stippling technique using Wise Owl Black Cherry and Wise Owl Petal and a custom mix to get the purple colors.

For the leaves, I used a mix of Wise Owl Nebula and Wise Owl 1950's Green

And now the magic of stain! The stain is what creates all of the dimension in my artwork.

I added some glazing (Wise Owl Mortar)

and stains on the body of the piece and around the edges of the top for some aging and character.
